“Road to Inclusion: Demir Kapija’s Journey in the Process of Deinstitutionalization and Community-Based Care”

On 30.10.2023 at Queen Mary Hotel, Demir Kapija held a closing conference of the project OASIS-Supported Community Living in Demir Kapija entitled “Road to Inclusion: Demir Kapija’s Journey in the Process of Deinstitutionalization and Community-Based Care”

AGENDA

Opening session/Greetings:

• Dr. Antonia Torrence – General Director of the Social Action and Innovation Centre (KMOP) from Greece
• Mr. Sasko Jovanov – Project Manager and CEO of the Association for Support and Development of Humanity
• Mr. Nafi Saracini – Manager of the European Union Delegation in Northern Macedonia
• Dusan Tomsic from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy

The speakers’ presentations focused on the importance of the deinstitutionalisation process for persons with intellectual disabilities by large institutions in small assisted living units

Second session:

• Mr. Lazar Petrov – Mayor of Demir Kapija municipality
• Mrs. Elizabeth Andova – Director of the Special Institution Demir Kapija

The presentation of the speakers was aimed at reviewing the progress of the deinstitutionalization in Demir Kapija: local initiatives and community engagement

In the third session they addressed:

• Mrs. Dunava Dimovski – Coordinator of the apartment unit “SOFI BUMO”
• Mrs. Marinela Adzikanova – Coordinator of the “SUNCE” residential unit

The presentation of the speakers was aimed at reviewing the establishment and functioning of assisted living housing units in Demir Kapija: results and lessons learned

They addressed in the last session:

• Mr. David Rama – Project Manager from the Social Action and Innovation Centre – KMOP Greece
• Mrs. Kristina Vasileska – Project Coordinator from Social Action and Innovation Centre – KMOP North Macedonia

Their presentations aimed at presenting project results and goals throughout project implementation as well as further sustainability of social service supported living.
